Cai Jiahan had once believed time was on his side.

Qin would retire. Hua lived abroad. The company would eventually need a family insider to protect its interests. Cai had built his career around that expectation.

Mufeng destroyed it simply by being competent.

After Mufeng stepped away, Gu Cheng became the next obstacle.

A traffic collision nearly killed Gu. Another passenger died.

Days later, police asked Mufeng to identify a man in custody.

Mufeng recognised him immediately.

The fisherman from the Yantie Canal.

His name was Gu Yong.

He was Gu Cheng's older brother.

The police explanation was worse than coincidence. Cai had paid Gu Yong to follow Mufeng and create "accidents." The drugged tea had been intended to kill him. Earlier incidents were connected to the same campaign of intimidation and attempted murder.

Gu Yong had taken the money because he needed it and had convinced himself that the victim was a rich executive who would never matter to him.

Then Cai targeted Gu Cheng.

That changed everything.

Gu Yong turned himself in, both to protect his brother and because he feared Cai would eventually eliminate him as a witness.

Cai was arrested.

Mufeng sat in the police station long after the statement ended.

He had spent years looking for elaborate motives behind the dangers around him—family secrets, organ transplantation, art crime, corporate conspiracies.

The central motive was simpler.

Cai wanted power.

Mufeng and then Gu Cheng stood in the way.

Linda later said, "London Fog became a hurricane and finally turned into poisonous wind."

Mufeng did not correct her nickname this time.

He only thought about how ordinary Cai had looked in elevators, meetings and hallways.

Evil did not always announce itself with madness.

Sometimes it carried a staff badge.
