Emma’s mother apologised again for the lie that had brought her home.
This time Emma stopped her.
“You were wrong.”
“I know.”
“You were really wrong.”
“I know.”
“You also thought you were helping.”
Her mother cried.
Emma hugged her.
“I’m not saying it was fine.”
“I know.”
“Stop saying you know.”
Her mother laughed through tears.
Some wounds did not need forgetting.
They needed a new use.
