Daniel proposed beneath the old ash tree.
Emma stared at the ring.
“No.”
His face fell.
She laughed.
“Not no to you. No to this.”
“What’s wrong with it?”
“Nothing. That’s the problem. You planned a normal proposal.”
“I thought normal was desirable.”
“After everything?”
She took his hand.
“Ask me in the honey room. Where we actually live.”
He looked offended.
“There are buckets.”
“Yes.”
“It smells of wax.”
“Yes.”
“Your brother walks in without knocking.”
“We can lock the door.”
“Romance.”
They went inside.
He asked again.
She said yes.
