The next morning, Camille’s office had been searched. The door was locked, but her files were subtly rearranged, and the photographs of the casket were gone from her desk. Her computer showed a failed login attempt at 03:12.
Julien checked the security logs. The system showed no one entering the archive wing at that hour. But a camera near the service elevator had been briefly deactivated.
“Professional,” he said.
“Or institutional,” Camille replied. She touched the back of her chair. “Whoever came here knows how to erase themselves from the Louvre’s memory.”
